There’s good news and bad news. China’s stock market is still working on stablizing itself. Remember, China isn’t a capitalist country. The government can still do whatever it wants without any democratic or stockholder interference.
This is good news for traders as many chinese penny stocks are highly volitile. However, it’s bad news for investors who want to buy and hold for the long run. Personally, I’ve had both short and long positions in China. And I think that’s the right play.
CNN Money once said that Chinese stock markets are “dominated by skittish amateurs” rather than large sharholders. And that’s what gives their market the volatility. Still, China penny stocks represent an amazing opportunity to grow your capital.
In January 2010, Francis Cheung, chief strategist at CLSA Securities, said Chinese stocks weren’t a “buy and hold market” yet. I think a lot has happened since then, but buying and holding chinese penny stocks is a risky game, which is why I feel very comfortable trading them instead. In fact, Cheung went on to say that Chinese stocks “tend to trade more efficiently than the market in China.”
